Phonics & Spelling
Children in Nursery, Reception, Year 1 will have daily phonics sessions, following our school programme of 'Phonics into Early Spelling'. Year 2 children may require additional consolidation of their phonic knowledge and so will have groups to support them with this learning. Year 2 children will then move towards learning spelling patterns and rules using the above scheme.
Here you will find lots of useful information to help with your child's learning. You will find the spelling appendix from Curriculum 2014 that outlines all the updates and amendments for the new National Curriculum.
For further information please refer to your child's class page - each year group will place weekly spelling home learning on these pages for you to follow. Each week, these rules will be tested in school and it is expected that children complete a home learning activity set by the teachers to enable them to practise these spelling skills. Further information about spelling can be found in the middle of the children's reading journals. In here you will also find lists of words for each year group that your child will be expected to learn alongside the spelling patterns and rules.
