Victorian Week
During the last week of Term 5 we had a Whole School Curriculum Week of learning based upon the Victorians. We had a visitor on Monday afternoon who shared slides of Portishead during that period (we recognised many places!). During the mornings the children worked within their phases or year groups and on the Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons they had the opportunity to choose two out of fifteen learning challenges that ranged from re-enacting the arrival of the first train in Portishead to building Brunel's bridges, making a Victoria Sponge or designing a Victorian hat (the taller the hat, the more important you were!!) to name but a few.
On Friday we invited the children to dress up as Victorian school children. They lined up separately, girls and boys, outside of their classrooms on that day and spent the morning sharing appropriate learning - reciting times tables, handwriting, how to curtsey/bow, the girls learnt how to lay a table. In the afternoon, we shared the week's learning with each other and celebrated with squash and cake. Here are some photographs of they day and more will follow. Also please check your child's class pages for more photos.
