Week Ending 12/10/18
In English, the children have been writing biographies of their classmates. We read biographies of famous people, such as Amelia Earhart, Usain Bolt and Roald Dahl, and looked at the features that make a good biography. The children also researched facts about these people to begin to think about the information that needs to be included when writing biographies, before interviewing each other to gather all of the facts that they needed. We found out everyone's favourite things and interesting facts about each other.
In Maths, the children have been using number lines to add to 3 digit numbers. They have learnt different methods of jumping up in multiples of 10s and jumping to the nearest 10 to make addition more efficient.
In PSHE we discussed our roles and responsibilities in the classroom and understood how everyone plays an important part. The children then designed their own certificates that will be used to celebrate their achievements in class.
In Maths, we will be moving on to looking at subtraction, using the same method of number lines. This will build a secure understanding before beginning to use the column method. In English we will be starting the process of researching a significant author and writing their biography. This will build on our learning from this week and prepare the children for the more rigorous uses of non-fiction writing.
