Week ending 19/10/18
This week we researched a significant author and wrote a biography about them. Learning about Dick King Smith's many jobs or Malorie Blackman's desire to be an English teacher was fascinating and we have been so impressed with the level of detailed research the children did. We learned about subtraction in Maths and revised our written methods from Year 2 ready for the new approaches the children will be using later in the year. We have also sent off our hardback book ready for publishing! The children also enjoyed a Science experiment examining the density of different liquids. Golden syrup was used to carefully examine how the weight of different liquids affects their ability to mix.
In English we will be looking at the book 'Unspoken' by Henry Cole that tells the story of the Underground Railroad in the United States during the civil war. The pencil-sketched book contains no words and leaves the storytelling to the children. In Maths we will be using column method to add and subtract 3 and 2 digit numbers and solve problems. In Science we will be researching different types of material to see what the best rain coat would be made from.
