Week ending 21/09/18
In English this week we have been learning about synonyms to improve writing, the children have written some amazing character descriptions about spine chilling, snot coloured giants! They have also explored the BFG theme further by writing instructions of how to catch a dream, using imperative verbs to be bossy.
In Maths we have been using our knowledge of place value to compare numbers to 1000 and also find 1, 10 and 100 more and less of different 3 digit numbers.
In Science, we continued our investigations into the 3 states of matter by learning about turning a liquid to a gas through the process of evaporation. We carried out an experiment to find out which material water would evaporate from the quickest; paper, sandpaper, fabric or kitchen roll, in an attempt to find the most suitable material to keep water hating giants dry.
In English we will be writing poetry based on Roald Dahl's nonsense language from the BFG, Gobblefunk.
In Maths we will be continuing our unit of place value, comparing and ordering numbers. We will then be starting the next unit of addition and subtraction.
The children will also be learning about Martin Luther King and his famous 'I have a dream' speech, this will be the inspiration for them to create their own speeches about the things that they are passionate about.
