Attendance

 At Trinity Anglican Methodist Primary School we are passionate about the positive impact upon your child's academic and social development of positive habits of school attendance.

We are proud that our whole school attendance during 2024-25 was amongst the highest of similar school nationally.  This was the result of a supportive and collaborative partnership between parents and carers and our school.

Where we have concerns about attendance, we work with parents/carers and children to identify and break down barriers to positive habits of attendance.  This includes letters for information and parental attendance support meetings.

Reporting an absence

It is critical that Parents/carers leave a message on our answerphone by 9am on the day of absence as it is part of our safeguarding procedures to check that we have been informed about any child not in school. Please confirm the following:

• Child’s name
• Reason for absence (“unwell” is not sufficient) to be recorded on electronic register
• Time/date of doctor’s appointment (if made)

All unaccounted for absences will be routinely followed up on the day by telephone, email, parent pay or if no contact has been made, a home visit. Unaccounted for absences need to be followed up so that if for instance, there has been an incident on the way to school, a concern is raised in a timely manner and can be attended to.

For early identification of an outbreak of an infectious disease at the school, we are requesting that parents provide a few more details when reporting child absences. For example, please inform us in your message whether they have had signs of “diarrhoea” or “vomiting”, as these signs can present more of a risk of transmission of disease to other children. If your child is clearly unwell with multiple incidences of D or V, please keep them off school for 48 hours after the last episode. For “viral illnesses” please state whether the child has a rash, high fever, muscle aches or cough/ cold signs. This information will be really helpful in putting control measures in place to prevent the spread of disease.

Medical appointments or absences

Please let us know as far in advance as you can of any medical appointments by bringing in a copy of your appointment letter. We ask that parents make scheduled Doctors, Optician and Dentist appointments outside of school hours where at all possible.

If you wish to take your child out of school during term time, please complete a Request for Pupil Absence Form (available from the office).
